I have a 1988 60 hp Johnson motor and i am having a problem shifting into reverse. when i first start to move the shift arm down it makes a clicking sound, but if i keep pressing it down it will stop and start to reverse. It also does this if i do it manually at the motor.
when i say "when i first start shifting" i mean in the beginning of the shift when you say quickly do you mean i should throw it full throttle in reverse? also this is a fairly new problem. and should i change gear oil with standard 80w -90 because thats what i have been using.
oh and yes it does going into reverse if i push it all the way down
