I bought a 1978 Avenger 3 years ago, it has a 1990's Mercury outboard 200hp (two stroke) and took it to a shop to do a tune up. They said the transom was rotting and they wouldn't do the tune up without replacing the transom ($3K). I took the boat back and didn't follow recommendations, as i hear the wood solid when i knock and no signs of rot at all! Three summers of fun and finally getting around to the tune up. I changed the spark plugs and fuel oil seperator. Now the boat wont start. I have spark and the starter works not sure what to do????Help?? we've used a lot of starter fluid spray into the I don't know what worked in past now not helping?????

What should I do to get my Mercury outboard motor starting better?
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010I have a 2001 mercury 90 horse 2 stroke outboard motor. How much money would it take to rebuild?
Wednesday, April 14th, 2010The motor still runs good. It uses more gas and oil now cause of it's age. I've noticed that it doesn't have the power it use to have. Sometime in the near future I'd like to get the motor rebuilt. What would be my best call on getting more life out of my engine. Complete overhaul or what? The engine has really been a good one and I'd like to keep it.

Why won’t the key ignition switch start my outboard motor?
Monday, April 5th, 2010The outboard fires up with the pull cord start but not with the key ignition switch. I have been told it's probably either the fuse, the solenoid, or the ignition switch itself. I replaced the fuse (which was in a wire harness that looks like a pill) so that shouldn't be the problem. I'm not sure how to check (or find) the solenoid, and am not sure how to check the ignition switch, or the 8 wires that come out of it. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. (The outboard is a early 80s Mariner)
What else would it be called besides a flywheel and where can I get a 1970 55 horse chrysler outboard flywheel
Sunday, April 4th, 2010I need that thing I call a flywheel or magnito for a 1970s chrysler outboard motor. Or can you use a flywheel from another outboard such as Johnson or Evinruide?
