Outboard Motors

Outboard motors are the most common method used for watercraft to propel themselves through the water. The motor also provides steering control because they are designed to pivot over their mounts which in turn controls the direction of thrust.

The First real outboard motor creator is credited to Ole Evinrude. It was the release of this motor that really propelled the industry in the early 1900s.

As motors progressed over the years, during the 1990s it was tougher emission standards that actually led to the wide scale use of the four stroke motors. Small four stroke motors have been available for over 100 years now.

Many of the newer outboard motors like Mercury Marine, Mercury Racing, Honda Marine, Suzuki Marine, and Yamaha Marine, have all developed news styles of four-stroke engines. With advance carburetion and even fuel injection, some of the motors can really pump out the horse power as well and get pretty good gas mileage.

When you’re looking for a used outboard motor, you want to make sure you get one that is not under powered for your boat, otherwise when you’re out on the water, getting somewhere will seem to take an eternity and make your outing less enjoyable.

We’ve designed this site around outboard motors and provide you listings to used and even new discount motors that you can buy right on line.

Hopefully, you will leave our site with the motor you were looking for and little more knowledge about how they work.

Thanks for visiting and happy boating!
